Obiettivi formativi | Lo studente dovrà raggiungere almeno il livello B2 del CEFR, riuscendo pertanto a comprendere testi scritti e orali di media difficoltà, dimostrando di sapersi orientare nelle situazioni comuni. Dovrà altresì dimostrare di conoscere e comprendere le basi del linguaggio specialistico della comunicazione e dei media. Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di riconoscere all’interno del discorso le diverse funzioni, l’utilizzo di strategie comunicative e figure retoriche, le tipologie di linguaggio e i registri. Lo studente dovrà dimostrare di aver acquisito consapevolezza del proprio livello di conoscenza linguistica e, laddove stimolato, capacità di auto-correzione e presa in esame degli errori o delle proprie lacune, soprattutto dal punto di vista linguistico. Lo studente dovrà dimostrare di saper comunicare in modo chiaro le conoscenze durante il corso, di saper esprimere le proprie considerazioni nell’ambito trattati nel corso delle lezioni frontali. Lo studente dovrà inoltre dimostrare di essere in grado di sostenere una conversazione di livello medio su argomenti di vita quotidiana. Lo studente dovrà dimostrare di aver acquisito le competenze linguistiche e le conoscenze teorico-concettuali affrontate durante il corso, in modo da poter discutere argomenti in materia di comunicazione e mass media in lingua inglese; lo studente dovrà altresì dimostrare di aver acquisito le tecniche di apprendimento della lingua alle quali sarà stato esposto durante il corso. |

Metodologie didattiche | Il corso si svolge mediante lezioni frontali e con supporto informatico. Sono previste lezioni di conversation la cui frequenza sarà considerata parte integrante della valutazione finale. |
Metodi di valutazione | L'esame prevede una prova scritta, superata la quale si accede alla prova orale. |
Altre informazioni | La frequenza non è obbligatoria, ma è altamente consigliata. Gli studenti del Corso di Studi in Scienze Politiche, che sostengono l’esame di Lingua e Cultura Inglese in mutuazione per 6 CFU devono attenersi allo stesso programma e le medesime modalità d’esame illustrate per il Corso di Studi in Scienze del Turismo, fatto salvo per la ripartizione dei CFU, che prevede 4 CFU per la parte di competenze linguistiche e 2 CFU per la parte di Media Studies. |
Programma del corso | Il programma è suddiviso in due parti. La prima parte è di consolidamento delle basi grammaticali e sintattiche della lingua, con l'obiettivo di raggiungere li livello B2 nei quattro ambiti di competenza della lingua: listening, speaking, reading, writing; il materiale di studo sarà fornito durante il corso e sarà costituto da materiale a stampa e online. Questa parte vale 4 CFU. La seconda parte del corso si concentrerà sull'acquisizione di competenze linguistiche specialistiche del linguaggio dei media. Il materiale di studio sarà estratto dal libro di testo e da altri testi scritti e audovisivi forniti durante il corso. Questa parte vale 4 CFU. |

Course objectives | Students must reach level B2 CEFR, consolidated the ability to comprehend medium-difficult written and oral texts, and to handle every-day situations in English. Student must also show they comprehend and know the bases of specialized language of media and communication. Students must be able to cognize the different functions of discourse, communication strategies and figurative language, as well as types of language and various registers. Students must show they have acquired awareness of their fluency level and self-correcting abilities. Students must be able to communicate clearly the abilities they have acquired during the course. Students must be able to carry out a medium-level conversation on every-day life topics. Students must show they have acquired linguistic competence and knowledge of the theories and concepts studied during the course and therefore be able to discuss the hemes of media and communication studied in the course. |

Teaching methods | The course is delivered through lectures, with the support of computer and audio-visual devices. Tutoring and conversation classes will be offered, the attendance of which will be taken into consideration for the final evaluation. |
Evaluation methods | The exam is written and oral. |
Other information | Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended. The students of Political Science who take the English Language Laboratory corresponding to 6 CFU must follow the same syllabus and will be tested in the same modality as those of the Tourism Course, with the only difference in the number of CFU, which is intended as: 4 CFU for language competence and 2 CFU for Media Studies. |
Course Syllabus | The course is divided into two parts. In the first part English grammar and syntax will be consolidated, with the aim of reaching level B2 CEFR, in the four skill of listening, speaking, reading, and writing; the study material for this part of the course will be handed out in class. This part corresponds to 4 CFU. The second part of the course will focus on the acquisition of the specialized language of mass media and media studies.; the study material will be in part extracts from the reference book and in part from print and online material, handed out in class. This part corresponds to 4 CFU. |
