The PhD programme, taught in both Italian and English, aims to train modern and versatile legal professionals who combine institutional skills with analytical and research tools useful for understanding the relationships between legal systems belonging to the Western legal tradition and comparing them with non-Western legal systems. Particular attention is paid to the Mediterranean, Asian and Latin American areas, in relation to which the PhD programme aims to explore the main methodological approaches and fundamental concepts developed by public law from the formation of national legal systems to the most recent developments, influenced by processes of supranational integration and globalisation. Particular attention is also paid to the transformations that have affected the action of public authorities and the relationship between the public and private sectors as a result of major changes in the economy and society and the growing interdependence between state legal systems. The PhD programme is characterised by its interdisciplinary approach, which involves not only comparative aspects of public and private law, but also historical, philosophical and economic aspects. Particular attention is also paid to issues of environmental law, European public law and European administrative law.
